Hegemony

This video is a continuation from what we were discussing in our last class, Hegemony.  "Hegemony is the power or dominance that one social group holds over others." (Dines & Humez, 2010)  We looked at this term in three different aspects which were gender, race, and class.  Growing up, I was immediately put into my social groups.  I am female, black, and working class. I am judged based off of these but it has not affected my life in a negative way.  I like this show "My Wife and Kids", because I can relate to it, and I feel that it really shows the truthfulness in a working class black family.

In this short video clip it shows how the father is taking on the duties of being the "man of the house hold" by being aggressive, and stern with his opinion on his daughter going to a party.  The mother is more sensitive towards the situation and talks the father into letting his daughter go.

I think that through this show, if you watch it in it's entirety you will have a pretty well overlook of how a "traditional" black family is ran.
